The creation of a new corporate institution for the Rías Baixas Denomination of Origin stems from the need to update the previous labelling system. This is essential if we want a consistent communication line. We will now proceed to explain how the different element of the old labelling system will evolve:
Three symbols were used in the previous label: the graphic representation of the "Rías Baixas" surrounded by a rope, a shield, several grape bunches and vine leaves.
The graphic representation of the words RIAS BAIXAS, in other words, the representation of the Southern coast of Galicia, is difficult to improve as a symbol from the conceptual point of view, apart from being the most remarkable element in the back label.
The rest of the elements, the shield, the leaf ornaments and grapes disappear.
The main colours are blue, green and brown.
These colours are preserved because they seem the most adequate ones. Blue represents the sea; green is identified with Galicia and brown because it is the colour of the ground where vines thrive.
The very personal and distinctive typography is preserved.
In conclusion, the graphic representation of the words "Rías Baixas", that is, the Southern coast of Galicia, turns into the most important element in the design. The surrounding rope, which gave it a local flavour, has been eliminated. Now it is an open design, which symbolises the will of internationalisation of the Rías Baixas Denomination of Origin.
